New Mitsubishi Montero Review: Upgraded Version of Luxury SUV

Having bagged good recognition at the Paris Dakar Rally, the Mitsubishi Montero is one of the most popular as well as successful SUV under Mitsubishi’s flagship. Made its debut first in 1983, the plush SUV still carry the attributes that makes it standout amongst the other SUV of its class. This new 2012 Montero has recently received an upgrade that include revamped front bumper, leather seats with stitched design, well finished power window, etc. The look and feel of the upgraded SUV has added some more feathers to its cap making it really lucrative for the potential buyers of the Luxury SUV segment. Glance at exterior:

The sturdy SUV already had some bold cues to make it appear premium compared to other vehicles of its class and now, they have been incorporated well giving it distinguished identity. The premium Montero now sports a new chrome grille flaunting the eminent Mitsubishi logo, redesigned front bumper having fine masculine cues, beautifully designed head lamps and fog lamps, headlamp washers, power door mirrors with defogger and folding function as well as turn lamps, silver front skid plate, silver side steps, the tail lamps and rear fog lamps, wiper and washer at the rear, spare tyre cover, etc.

The SUV has 7 spoke 17-inch alloy rims with the 265/65 R 17 tyre that enhances the overall stance of the vehicle. The flanks of the Montero boast elegant cues that very well follow to the rear. The rear is decently designed. Mitsubishi has good ground clearance of 225mm. With 4900mm x 1875mm x 1870mm dimensions, the car features wheelbase of 2780mm. Thus, the exterior of the new Montero is worth appreciation.


Interior feel:

Expect it to be plush and it will really take you by surprise with its magnificent quality of material used inside. The interior is equipped with all the luxurious features like power window panel, leather seats with stitch design, leather steering wheel, Rockford audio system, tachometer, digital odometer, inner door handle with chrome accent, Information display incorporated at the centre of upholstery, seat heaters, LED sealing down lamps, electronic rear view mirror, power seat for driver with lumber support, radio player and 6 CD player with 12 speakers, holders for gloves and sunglasses, wheel mounted audio and cruise controls, automatic air conditioner, armrest for second row passengers and many other comfort features.

The ambience of the cabin feels very plush with ample of space for accommodating 7 passengers. With beige and black colour theme on the inside, the SUV give a refreshing feel to the passengers. All in all, the Montero has all that is required for a luxury vehicle of its size and class.

Performance:

Powered by 3.2-litre, 3200cc, 4-valve DOHC turbocharged inter cooled diesel engine, the new Mitsubishi Montero comes with CRDI fuel system. This engine mated with 5-speed auto transmission is capable of churning out 202 PS of power at 3800 rpm and peak torque of 441 Nm at 2000 rpm. With this power, the SUV can sprint from 0-100kmph in just 15 seconds.

New Mitsubishi Montero offers mileage of 7.2kmpl in the city traffic and 12kmpl on highways. The car offers implanted ride with power packed acceleration. This premium SUV is made to race on the tracks and has all-wheel drive system. Thus, it can manoeuvre smoothly even on the rough terrains with ease. Montero can devour all the other vehicles when set to run on roads. It’s really a great car in terms of performance.

Safety features:

2012 Montero is equipped with standard safety kit including ABS, EBD, hydraulic brake booster, rear corner sensor, collapsing steering column, immobiliser, keyless entry system, child protection rear door lock system, dual stage SRS airbag for front passengers, side and curtain SRS airbag, Active stability and traction control system, height adjustable seat belts, etc.
The vehicle has excellent braking system and other safety features that make it one of the safest car to be in.

Verdict:

Although the new upgraded Mitsubishi Montero is loaded with great features, it is still a bit on the expensive side with Rs. 41,34,000 (ex-showroom prices). Available in three different colours – solid white, black mica and cool silver metallic, the Montero is really a great vehicle with elegant looks, plush interiors and powerful drivetrain.
