New versions of Hyundai Santa Fe introduced as Family haulers
Hyundai has showcased its news versions of Santa Fe targeted at people with two or more children in the family. The base variant Santa Fe Sport offers better mileage compared to other competitors, while top trim Santa Fe LWB offers sufficient storage space with the capacity to accommodate 7 passengers.
April 9, 2012: Hyundai Motor Co. has introduced two new variants of the Santa Fe crossover SUV at the New York International Auto Show. With these two new variants, Hyundai is targeting families with two or more children and those who require storage space as well as other facilities of an SUV.
The top variant is big in size due to long wheel base (LWB) and is named as Santa Fe LWB model. This LWB model boasts three rows of seats with the capacity to accommodate seven passengers. Along with this, Hyundai has also revised the standard Santa Fe model called the ‘Sport’ model with the capacity to accommodate five passengers comfortably. The base model Sport is likely to hit the showrooms late this summer, while the top model LWB will be going on sale in January.
Hyundai has more or less maintained the fluidic design theme with both the models. The overall look of the SUVs is aerodynamic with high door lines and attractive creases on the flanks. The SUV crossovers appear to be designed on the similar lines which can be very well witnessed in the Hyundai’s hot mid-size sedan Sonata and compact Elantra.
On the inside, the two new versions of Santa Fe have better legroom for the rear seaters compared to the competitors. The material used as standard for the seats is made from a spill-and odor-resistant fabric, which is anti-static and anti-bacterial. On top of this, the new versions of Santa Fe are well equipped with all the capabilities of an SUV and standard features.
The base model Santa Fe Sport comes with the option of two 4-cylinder engines. A 2.4-litre engine capable of generating 190 horsepower comes as standard with the Sport model. For those who want faster run on the way, may opt for a 2-litre turbo charged engine producing 264 horsepower. The two engines are mated to six-speed auto transmissions. The gas and the air inside the cylinder surrounding the piston are mixed making the crossovers more powerful and efficient compared to the engines that mix outside the cylinder. In short, the two engines have direct fuel injection.
The 2.4-litre engine of Sport is claimed to offer decent mileage of33 mpg on the highway, which is the best mileage ever offered by an SUV with an automatic transmission, as per Hyundai.
Top model LWB comes with a single direct-injection V-6 powertrain capable of delivering 290 horsepower. This engine is powerful enough for better hauling and towing of family. This engine is expected to offer a mileage of 26 mpg on the highway.
Hyundai is really offering good fuel economy with its base model Sport and good storage space with its top variant LWB. Hyundai’s Santa Fe LWB is expected to vie other family haulers such as Toyota Highlander, Chevrolet Traverse and Honda Pilot, while the Santa Fe Sport will compete with Chevrolet Equinox and Toyota RAV4.
These models by Hyundai will be showcased at the New York Auto Show till April 15. So, all the Hyundai Santa Fe Fans can visit the exhibition to take a look at the two new versions of Hyundai Santa Fe.
