M&M to Setup New Solar Charging Stations to Power Electric Cars

The company is looking for setting up solar-powered charging stations in order to run its new electric car produced under Mahindra Reva venture. M&M is also gearing up to produce solar power above 100MV in the next two years.

Mahindra LogoJanuary 12, 2012: Mahindra and Mahindra is planning to setup solar-powered charging stations in order to run its new electric car produced under Mahindra Reva venture. The company wants to provide adequate infrastructural facility to enable easy charging of electric car.

Speaking about the electric car, the Vice Chairman of Mahindra Group, Mr. Anand Mahindra said, “We are working on our electric car Reva, a green car that would run on clean energy. For this, we are looking at charging stations to run on solar power. We are the first company to commission solar power projects under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM).”

He also said, “Electric cars sell the most in Norway. So, that is the future. The UK is the largest export market for Reva electric vehicles. But in India, we have to ensure that we have fuelling stations…it’ll take time.”

According to the company, it needs to work on producing solar power above 100MV in the next two years from now. Considering encouraging Government policies on solar plants, Anand Mahindra is positive over setting and is also planning up solar plant to execute these projects under the JNNSM.
