Maruti Ertiga MPV will be launched on April 11, 2012
Maruti Suzuki India will take the decision over the price and also on the number of petrol and diesel variants of the MPV Ertiga to be produced post Union Budget 2012-2013.
March 9, 2012: Maruti Suzuki India has made an announcement of launching its multipurpose vehicle Ertiga on April 11, 2012. Although the launch date of the Ertiga has been declared by the company, the price and the number of petrol and diesel variants have not been finalised yet.
The company will be finalising the price of the seven seater compact MPV after the Union Budget 2012-13, which will be made public on 16th March 2012. Also, due to possibility of announcement of additional tax on diesel cars in the upcoming budget, the Maruti Suzuki is compelled to take decision on the number of petrol and diesel variants of Ertiga to be produced post budget.
Maruti will enter the high-end multi-purpose vehicle segment by launching its Ertiga. The company is looking forward to sell about 5,000 units of Ertiga monthly. Although Mahindra Xylo is the closest rival of the Ertiga, the vehicle is expected to generate good margins for Maruti mainly because of less competition in this segment. Maruti rolls out its Ertiga from company’s Gurgaon plant.
In addition to all this, the company will also introduce K-14 VVT 1.4-litre engine in India for the first time. The company also reportedly claims that its 1.3-litre DDiS Super Turbo diesel engine variant will offer fuel economy of 20.77 kmpl. As per company’s evaluations, only 14% of the Indian automotive industry falls under utility vehicle segment and within this segment almost 66% of the vehicles are MPVs. So, the company is endeavouring to effectively create space for its new compact MPV in Indian auto industry. Well, only the demand for the vehicle after the launch will determine its fate.
