Fuel Saving Tires
The auto makers have developed new tires that help in less emission of CO2. These tires make less contact with the road reducing the resistance and thereby, reducing the consumption of gasoline to power the vehicle.
March 5, 2012: The rising concerns over the greenhouse gas emissions and global warming have compelled the major companies to reduce their carbon footprint and get indulged in developing environmental friendly products.
At the same time, the strict legislation over limitations of the greenhouse gas emissions from the auto makers have resulted in the formation of tires capable of decreasing the level of carbon dioxide emissions.
According to European Environment Agency, road transportation contributes to one-fifth of the total CO2 emissions of the Europe. As a result of which European Union has initiated various CO2 restrictions. These restrictions forced the tire makers to produce eco-friendly tires. These tires make lighter contact with the road to reduce the amount of resistance and deliver sufficient power to the vehicle consuming less gasoline. Thus, the tires help the companies to reduce their carbon footprints.
It is also to be noted that less resistance results in less brake efficiency. Thus, the eco-friendly tires may role on even after the brakes are applied. Continental, a major tire maker, had once in 2007 opposed the legislation to reduce CO2 emissions through green tires stating that they may lack brake efficiency. However, the company went on to make the best tires in the market to reduce the impact on the environment in its struggle to make fully safe green tires.
The fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are reduced by Continental ProContact tire. This green tire was designed to be used for sedans, minivans, coupes and crossover vehicles. The ProContact with Ecoplus Technology is one of the eco-friendly tires, which is capable of saving gas and providing good traction. In addition to this, the fuel-efficient Bridgestone Ecopia EP-02 tire has been especially designed for electric vehicles. Thus, the eco-friendly tires are truly helpful in saving fuel and reducing carbon footprints.
