Ford to Invest Around Rs. 730 Crore for EcoSport Production in India
The compact SUV EcoSport was unveiled at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo considering the significant demand for the SUVs in the Indian auto industry.
January 13, 2012: Ford India has officially made an announcement of planning to invest around Rs. 730 crore for revamping the Chennai manufacturing facility to produce its compact SUV EcoSport. The compact sport utility vehicle EcoSport was unveiled at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. With an EcoBoost 1.0-litre engine along with 1.5-litre diesel engine, the Ford EcoSport features all the necessary kits that can ensure its success in the SUV segment of the Indian auto industry.
In 2011, Ford Motor could manage to register a sale of 96,000 units breaking the previous sales records of the company in India. Thus, it feels that the Ford EcoSport would further boost its sales in India. The company is also gearing up to build its second manufacturing unit in Sadanand, Gujrat having invested US $1 billion.
The President and MD of Ford India, Mr. Michael Boneham said that the company inaugurated new dealerships within 10 days in India since June, 2011 and these dealerships have helped the brand to become popular and improved its presence in the Indian auto sector. Now, there are 220 dealerships of the Ford in India to sell its cars. So, with good number of dealerships and revamped Chennai facility, Ford India aspires to achieve new heights by launching EcoSport SUV in near future.
