It is well known that the Mahindra XUV5OO has been a hit in 2011 and is still receiving good response among the SUV lovers. Therefore, Mahindra is gearing up to produce 4,000 units per month of XUV5OO by June, 2012. On the other hand, Ford Endeavour is a robust, but old school SUV. It can take any terrain and its presence can be felt on the street. While one belongs to Indian soil and inherits its trait, the other has proved itself on Indian soil. So, it will be really great to see who makes it to the finish line to be declared as better than the other.

2012 Ford Endeavour India

Mahindra XUV500 at Delhi Auto ExpoDesign (Exterior & Interior):

Mahindra XUV5OO follows ‘pouncing Cheetah’ theme in its design that very well reflects throughout the exterior. The SUV has outstanding body language with muscular front grille, beautiful headlamps, Twin exhausts, front and rear fog lamps, paw styled handles of the door and adjustable ORVMs. The roof rail seams to make way through slitting the air. Though the Endeavour looks rugged, imposing and bold, it has an old school design. This sturdy build SUV looks boxy and it features silver roof rails, chrome door handles, Aluminium side steppers, front and rear Fog lamps, twirled headlamps and ORVMs with turn indicators. The Ford Endeavour reflects the raw appeal it bears. So, in looks XUV500 outsmarts Endeavour.

Mahindra XUV500 InteriorMahindra XUV5OO comes loaded with the features using enhanced technology that delivers luxury at par. The cool box, beautifully carved dashboard and the steering wheel mounted controls creates upmarket ambience in the car. Some of the features that add to the beauty of the interior include touch screen navigational help, laptop holder and sunglasses holder along with conversational mirror and lounge lights to create a specific mood. This 7-seater has plenty of space in the first two rows, while the third row struggles for space. The voice control feature, instrumental cluster loaded with indicators easy to understand and operate. Although Mahindra tried its level best to provide great interior, the interior couldn’t leave lasting impact. The Ford Endeavour has better interior trimming, upholstery and material quality than Mahindra’s XUV5OO. The Ford Endeavour has excellent fit and finish along with elegant craft work done to comfort the passengers. The plastic and the leather used for the dashboard and other parts of the interior are of great quality. The interior of the Endeavour leaves better and lasting impact compared to the interior of the XUV5OO.

2012 Ford Endeavour India Performance (Engine & Handling):

Mahindra XUV5OO is powered by 2.2-litre 2179cc mHawk diesel engine that produces 140bhp of power at 3750rpm and peak torque of 330Nm at 1600-2800rpm. The Ford Endeavour offers 2.5-litre and 3.0-litre diesel engine options to power it. The 2.5-litre engine can produce maximum power of 143PS at 3500rpm and decent torque of 330Nm at 1800rpm. The other 3.0-litre diesel engine generates peak power of 156PS at 3200rpm and 380Nm of maximum torque at 2500rpm.

The mileage offered by the XUV5OO is 12kmpl-14kmpl and the SUV can achieve the top speed of 185kmph. XUV5OO features 6-speed manual transmission. Similarly, even the Endeavour comes with manual transmission, which is a 5-speed transmission. Both, the engines of the Endeavour offer a mileage of around 9kmpl-13.8kmpl. The 2.5-litre motor of the Endeavour can achieve the top speed of 156kmph, while the 3.0-litre engine can pull the SUV up to the top speed of 149kmph.

Mahindra XUV500 Engine

The steering control is at its best in XUV500. The suspensions provide utmost stability to the SUV. The SUV cruises comfortably on the street and it provides heart winning drivability. The Ford has the capability to take off roads with ease and it offers decent drive. This butch SUV is truly rugged and has all the standard features to support good ride, for example, the active shift transmission feature that allows the vehicles to easily shift from 2-wheel drive to 4-wheel drive. Thus, the two cars are very close competitors when it comes to performance. While XUV5OO scores in mileage and decent power generation, the Endeavour takes on XUV5OO in terms of ride quality and availability of two engines to choose from.

Safety measures:

The XUV5OO comes equipped with the standard safety features like hill decent and hill hold control, ABS, ESP, disc brakes and 6 airbags. The Ford Endeavour offers dual front airbags, ABS, EBD, front disc brakes, engine immobiliser, etc.

Thus, there is no doubt that the Ford offers better safety kit, but Mahindra has adequate safety features one can ask for.

Incarz Opinion:

Mahindra XUV5OO with its unique and attractive looks, better mileage and adequate features has been sales driver. On the other hand, Ford though rugged and offers plenty of advanced features as well as comfortable ride couldn’t actually drive sales like that of XUV5OO.

Result (Win over):

The main reason for the win of one on the other here will be the pricing. While Mahindra XUV500 price is very competitive falling within the range of 10.8 lakh to 12.88 lakh, the price of the Ford Endeavour falls between Rs. 17.06 lakh and Rs. 20.13 lakh. Thus, Mahindra XUV5OO is a better option over the Ford Endeavour. This is because, Mahindra has offered way too much at an affordable price compared to any other SUV in the segment.

  1. On the whole, with its global design standards along with exceptional performance stats, I think the new XUV 500 stands out as the best choice as opposed to the new Ford Endeavour.
