The Skoda Company of Czech Republic is planning to set strong ground base by launching its new portfolio sedan named as Rapid in Indian automotive market. The company expect the sedan to generate high volume of revenue to the company while it competes with the other C – segment sedans to declare its supremacy over them. The company claims that the car is designed for Indian market and may be exported around the globe later. Thus, there are high expectations by the Skoda India and the car enthusiasts from the Rapid, a portfolio sedan. The new sedan Rapid can be called as the shadow of VW Vento.
The Rapid has centred grille with the two headlamps swept backwards and the fog lamps are beautifully shaped giving the car a good look. The sideline is very neat moving to the rear which is simple and more muscular. The interior has all the standard features which increases with an upward move in the variants of Rapid. The interior is expected to have lot of room for head, leg and boot. There won’t be too much of plush but it will be comfortable inside the cabin. There will be driver delighted dashboard and beautiful cluster. And few other special features may come as surprise to us during the launch.
Performance & handling:
The performance of Rapid will have an influence of VW Vento as Rapid will use 1.6litres diesel and petrol engine producing power of 105 PS, maximum torque of 250Nm in diesel and 153Nm in petrol. The sedan will have 5-speed manual transmission gear box. The car is expected to be better fuel efficient than the other cars of the same segment. The car is expected to perform better on Indian roads due to its claim of being built for India. The pickup and handling may be top-notch in the segment.
The sedan will surely have ABS, EBD and even airbags for front. The McPherson struts, semi-independent trailing arm type suspension with front disc and drum brakes at the rear will do sufficient job of safety.
Pricing and Positioning:
The car will be priced anywhere between Rs. 7 lakhs to Rs. 10 lakhs. The car is positioned to enter the crowded battle field of C segment sedans comprising cars like VW Vento, Honda City, Fiat Linea, Ford Fiesta and Hyundai Verna.
The car as expected may soar to high volume of profit for Skoda, if really designed to serve the Indian audiences. Any negative change in expectations may not fetch good results for Skoda.
