Bajaj to Unveil a Small Car at the Delhi Auto Expo
Bajaj plans to showcase an 800cc small car to take on the Tata Nano and the market leader Maruti-Suzuki Alto. With an expected fuel economy of 30 km per liter, this car will surely dominate the small car segment in India.
December 24, 2011: India’s leading two-wheeler manufacturer, Bajaj Auto is planning to unveil the concept version of its much awaited, low cost small car at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. This 800cc car is set to enter the A-segment of small cars in India and is expected to take on the Tata Nano and the best-seller of the segment – the Maruti-Suzuki Alto.
The car is expected to be highly economical and fuel efficient and speculations are that the car will be unveiled on 3rd January, 2012. Ever since the launch of the Tata Nano a couple of years ago, Bajaj had indicated its plans to launch a low cost small car for the Indian masses. Now it is time that people will finally get a glimpse of the car very soon.
Bajaj has been in the development process of the car since quite some time now. Initially, Bajaj had discussions with the Nissan – Renault JV for collectively developing this car where Bajaj was to handle the design while the marketing and distribution of the car was to be taken care by Nissan – Renault.
The Bajaj small car is based on the company’s two-wheeler and three-wheeler platform and is reported to be highly fuel efficient with its mileage expected to be more than 30 km per liter. Consumers and competitors will both have to watch out for this car as the fuel economy itself can become its selling point. With the peaking petrol prices, fuel efficiency plays an important role while deciding on buying a car, especially in the A-segment small cars in India.
